Cargill Health &Food Technologies Showcases Its New CoroWise™ Brand of Plant Sterol at SupplySide East
FDA's recent approval supports plant sterol heart-health claim

MINNEAPOLIS - May 5, 2003 - Cargill Health & Food Technologies (H&FT) will showcase its new CoroWise™ brand plant sterols during the SupplySide East International Trade Show and Conference, May 6-7, 2003 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Cargill H&FT welcomes the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration action that will permit the use of the plant sterol heart-health claim on a broader range of foods and beverages.

"Plant sterols, such as CoroWise™ plant sterols, have been found in clinical studies to be effective in decreasing total blood and LDL cholesterol as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol," said Steve Snyder, Cargill H&FT director of sales and marketing for nutraceutical ingredients. "The recent action by the FDA provides a unique and immediate opportunity to incorporate CoroWise™ plant sterols into new heart healthy consumer products," Snyder said.

SupplySide East attendees also will have the opportunity to taste chocolates made with Cargill H&FT's AdvantaSoy™ soy isoflavones. Emerging science suggests that soy isoflavones may benefit women by relieving some menopausal symptoms and may help maintain bone health. Chocolates with AdvantaSoy™ retain their traditional flavor, color and consistency. This is possible due to the unique processing of AdvantaSoy™ isoflavones. The unique processing also improves the taste and odor when compared to other isoflavones on the market.
