Cargill makes delicious healthy living suggestions at Supply Side West 2008

Creative prototypes demonstrate its extensive experience with customer collaboration

MINNEAPOLIS
- Cargill will demonstrate its expertise in helping food and beverage manufacturers develop and market innovative products that respond to consumer demand for functional products that address specific health benefits at this year’s Supply Side West, Oct. 23-24 in Las Vegas.

Cargill’s booth (#21058) will feature prototypes made with health-promoting ingredients that address heart, joint and bone, and digestive health, and others formulated with specialty sweeteners designed to maintain blood sugar levels already within the normal range.

“Cargill is building on its proven success in developing products that have tremendous commercial appeal,” said Pam Stauffer, global marketing programs and communications manager, Cargill Health & Nutrition. “We are combining our extensive technical expertise with supply chain and marketing capabilities to help our customers bring delicious, health-promoting products to consumers with such cutting-edge ingredients as CoroWise™ plant sterols, Oliggo-Fiber® inulin, Zerose™ erythritol, Xtend® sucromalt, long-chain omega-3-rich fish oil, Barlív barley betafiber and specialty salt products.”

Cargill’s Regenasure® glucosamine hydrochloride also will be featured. “Regenasure® is the only glucosamine in the marketplace that offers customers in both the food and supplement categories the reliability and security of glucosamine produced in the United States," said Mark Christiansen, acidulants sales manager, Cargill Corn Milling. “Plus, it is produced from a vegetarian source, so is suited for vegetarians or those with shellfish allergies.”

  • A superfruit muffin made with Cargill’s long-chain omega-3-rich fish oil, a product that can be incorporated into food products with no discernible change in flavor or shelf life; and chocolate and vanilla dry blended beverages made with Barlív barley betafiber to help promote healthy cholesterol levels.
  • Chews made with Oliggo-Fiber® inulin to support digestive health, help enhance calcium absorption and enable calorie reduction in many foods.
  • Prototypes made with Cargill’s sweetener solutions, provide customers with an opportunity to formulate their products with low glycemic carbohydrates. Offerings will include a chewy snack bar made with Xtend® sucromalt, a natural, slowly digestible, as well as mint patties and a fruit spread made with Zerose™ erythritol, a natural and organic sugar alternative that tastes like a sugar, but has zero sugar, zero calories, zero aftertaste and zero artificial ingredients.
  • Mandarin orange and ginger peach tea, as well as berry and mango-flavored smoothies made with Regenasure® glucosamine.
  • Prototypes made with Cargill’s salt solutions, which provide life-enhancing nutrients and flavor benefits include: Dark chocolate sea salt truffles topped with natural Cargill Sea Salt, providing an easy way to elevate the bittersweet notes of the chocolate while adding to its perceived premium and authentic flavor and a sport drink stick made with natural Cargill Sea Salt and other electrolyte ingredients to provide the balanced nutrition and replenishment for the sports or workout enthusiast.

Technical and marketing experts will also be available to share insights and expertise on how Cargill partners with its customers to help them develop differentiated new products or enhance existing brands in the beverage, bakery, confectionery, dairy, savoury and meat categories. Cargill is utilizing its consumer insight and regulatory and scientific expertise to develop and market products that help customers capitalize on the growing demand for healthier consumer packaged goods.
