Cargill Health & Food Technologies Shows
AdvantaSoy™ Isoflavone and Plant Sterol Ester Prototypes at
American Dietetic Association Conference
MINNEAPOLIS - October 7, 2002 - Cargill Health & Food Technologies
(H&FT) will present functional food prototypes at the American
Dietetic Association Food & Nutrition Conference & Exhibition 2002,
October 19-22nd. Prototype products on display at booth number 127/129
will include chocolates made with AdvantaSoy™ Clear™ soy isoflavones
and oatmeal raisin cookies made with plant sterol esters.
AdvantaSoy™ Clear™ GRAS (generally recognized as safe) determination has been affirmed by an independent panel of experts qualified by scientific training and experience to evaluate the safety of food and food ingredients, and in particular, isoflavones. Advantasoy™ Complete is produced using a solvent-free manufacturing process, resulting in a combination of soy protein and isoflavones. Preliminary evidence suggests that isoflavones may relieve some menopausal symptoms and help maintain bone health.
Plant sterol esters can be consumed regularly as part of a healthy diet and can be used as a dietary option for lowering cholesterol. In addition, the Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of a cardiovascular health claim for some foods enriched with plant sterol esters.
"Cargill's ingredients illustrate new trends in the functional food industry. Our ingredients promote health among mainstream Americans by enhancing popular food products," said Steve Snyder, H&FT director of sales and marketing. "The prototypes showcased in our booth demonstrate how AdvantaSoy™ isoflavones and plant sterol esters create new avenues for functional food manufacturers to increase the value of their products. We welcome the opportunity to talk with anyone interested in our prototypes and ingredient product line."
