2008 new product development study
This 6-page article reports the findings of New Products Magazine’s 8th Annual New Product Development Study and summarizes information from "318 processors personally involved in the product development process across six food/beverage categories." The responses relate to "new product planning and development, resources, market trends - including popular flavor predictions for 2008 - and pre/post launch marketing plans for the coming year." The six categories are beverages; baked goods; prepared foods; meat, poultry, seafood and deli; dairy; and snack and candy. The article notes that R&D groups this year will focus on products that are "healthy," "natural" and "organic" products. It says there will be less team activity in product planning and development and fewer companies "will follow a set plan in 2008." Diagrams show the percentage of respondents and their two top product development areas in 2008 compared to 2007 and development phases in candy and snack. A table notes the top flavors for 2008 in the 6 food/beverage categories.
